Our feature offering at Studio House is our 12-week heels dance training and performance sessions!
We put on three full 12-week sessions a year where dancers train, grow, and learn routines that are then performed in a large, full-scale production at the end of the 12 weeks. These routines are all based on one show theme, and are built to showcase and empower the dancers in each class.
Session classes are sorted by experience level and range from absolute beginner - ZERO experience necessary! - to advanced level heels dancers. Every class, regardless of training level, performs THREE routines in the same full production to celebrate their individual growth and the work that 60+ adult dancers have put in over the last three months!
Our shows are always a PARTY and are performed in front of the most supportive and encouraging audience possible. We cheer each other on in life and in literal hoots and hollers, and we promise - even if performing feels like the scariest thing you've ever done, it will also be the most fun and empowering experience of your year!!
Over the last seven years, our 'student showcases' have been performed at the Orillia Opera House, Georgian College, the Southshore Community Centre, the Barrie Curling Club, and many more venues around Simcoe County. Our average show involves over 60 dancers, and we have produced over 20 full-scale productions through the past seven years. Even if this is your first time ever stepping on a stage, you are in experienced hands!
Our studio hosts the only heels dance instructors in Barrie that are formally trained in heels dance and heels dance instruction. All our teachers are passionate about dance and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise with them to every class. Their choreography is unique and varied, and they make sure no dancer is ever left behind. Dedicated to helping our students grow inside and outside the studio walls, Studio House Staff are true leaders in our community and are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment.
People only grow outside their comfort zones, and our programming is dedicated to helping you explore, learn, and thrive as a dancer and as a human inside and outside the studio walls. Try something new, do something that scares you, and discover how AMAZING you are in just 12 weeks!
The effect our heels session training has on our dancers cannot be contained within the walls of our studio. First-time performers often find the posture, power, and confidence they're learning in their session classes ripples out into the rest of their lives! Strutting becomes a habit that is very hard to kick. ;)
Heels dance is a style of movement that embraces and celebrates any and all body types and teaches you to LOVE grooving to music and getting your heart pumping. Our classes are guaranteed to provide you with fun, structured, and empowering body-positive movement.
There is something very special that happens when humans let themselves move to music. It's captivating to watch, and absolutely incredible to experience for yourself. Dancing releases stress, improves brain activity, and boosts "happy hormones" levels in the body. In other words, dancing can literally create joy!
(we're not kidding - it's literally backed by Harvard-level science)
You're heard us say it before, but our heels sessions are not just training and performance programs - they are a community. Dancers bond together like nowhere else, and each class truly operates as a team, uplifting, celebrating, and supporting every other dancer in the room. And in the end, we all work toward the same goal - making an absolutely KILLER show!
Ever put months of work into something, and then it just 'finishes'? No fanfare, no celebration, no acknowledgement - it's just done? Well that is NOT how we roll! Our 12 week program is built to lead up to a performance so you get that pay-off. Your work builds to something AMAZING and you have that opportunity to show off and be celebrated for everything you've done and everything you are!
Our upcoming 12 week session is open for registration - and this show is going to be our most special and powerful one yet!
Join us as we heal and grow together, crafting performances based on real-life stories of bullying and harassment. Each show routine, regardless of class or level, will showcase a response to a moment in a dancer's life that was meant to tear them down, but only made them stronger.

Our Beginner level session class is perfect for you!!
This session level class is designed to spend time building a firm, complete foundation in heels dance (and dance in general!) starting from the basics of how to stand, walk, and move in heels and building your confidence and show-readiness as the session progresses.
Believe it or not, the majority of dancers who are now in our Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, and even Advanced session classes came to the studio having never danced before in their lives. So you are not alone, and most of us have been right where you are now! We will hold your hand, cheer you on, and provide you with everything you need to have the time of your life.
You need absolutely ZERO experience to thrive in a class that is truly meant for beginners - and our favourite thing in the world is watching our Beginners grow and step into their power over the course of just 12 weeks!
All our classes start the same way - with a stretch, warmup, and short workout to make sure everyone is ready to move and prevent injuries. Then, we launch into learning a fun, unique section of choreography (under-60-seconds in length) to practice skills, blow off some steam, and work on choreo-retention. We run the full choreo sequence a few times as a large group, and then split into smaller groups so we can cheer each other on! To finish class, we do the section of choreo one last time as a large group and film that to post on Instagram. Participation in the small groups and the large group video is always 1000% optional, and we give warning before any filming takes place.
We call this first hour the 'dropin hour' because those who are not in the session class are also welcome to 'dropin' and join the fun for those 60 minutes. Our 12 week session includes that first hour of a 'drop-in' class for the first 9 weeks, and then the last three weeks of the session are entirely dedicated to practicing and preparing for the show.
In the second hour. we work on training, technique, and learning the show routines that will be performed in the production at the end of the session. This hour is just for those in the 12-week session, and is where the class bonds as a team and the show-readiness magic happens!
NO. <3
The most important thing in any class is your comfort and your confidence! Especially in the Beginner level, we encourage you to start in whatever (clean, indoor) footwear you feel your best in. Then, as the session progresses and your knowledge and skills grow, you can work up to wearing the heel height of your choosing. For first time heels dancers, we recommend starting in a wedge heel, large/low chunky heel, or a kitten heel (very low stiletto) for the best stability.
Since this style of dance is meant to be done in a shoe that has at least a little bit of a heel, there are some moves that are actually a little easier to do with an elevated heel than with flat feet. But we never want injuries, mobility considerations, or high-heel related anxiety to prevent ANYONE from finding the joy and empowerment of the heels dance style!
We will always encourage our dancers to push themselves outside of their comfort zones, but we NEVER force anyone to do anything they fundamentally do not want to do! We have had many dancers fully participate in the 12 weeks of classes knowing they cannot/do not want to be in the final show, and we 100% support them just the same the whole way. Just let your instructor know in the first class what your plan is, and they will plan around it.
That being said, we have a long history of people who knew the show was their big. scary thing that they wanted to push themselves to conquer - and they needed extra support and encouragement along the way to do so - but after their first show, EVERY ONE has said performing with us is the biggest possible payoff they could have imagined!
